This Education Leadership Institute will be held in Southern Ontario in 2008. The institute is open to current Ontario classroom educators at both the elementary and secondary levels who are interested in improving their knowledge and teaching abilities in water education. Energy and Climate Change education will be in important part of the topics covered. Emphasis will be on the Intermediate division.
In terms of energy, the program will follow a 3 part path, first looking at the current situation in terms of energy use, the drivers of change and the outlook for future energy technologies.
Energy Issues as outlined in the Ontario curriculum will be looked into with the help of government, industry and other community interest groups. Availability of educational resources will be investigated with the focus on classroom ready activities and strategies for students to examine essential issues. The philosophy is a bias-balanced approach, looking at all sides of an issue without shrinking from any questions. The program will include presentations, workshops and field trips.
Duration of the institute will be approximately 6 days (schedule to be confirmed). Scholarships may be available to cover part or all of the cost of the institute on site. Please apply in writing for financial support.
